365 Movies Day #35 "Once Were Warriors"
What a film. Featuring the amazing talent of Temuera Morrison (who many sci fi geeks will recognize as Jango Fett...and his clones...can also be caught as Abin Sur in the "Green Lantern" film), Rena Owen (for the REAL sci fi geeks...also a Star Wars vet) and Cliff Curtis (of Danny Boyle's fantastic "Sunshine"). This film deals with domestic violence in a way that is heartbreaking. It's about inherited guilt and pride. It's about the strength of a woman. It's about the breaking of something beautiful. If it doesn't break your heart, you don't have one.
Set in New Zealand and following the trail of a family descended from Maori warriors, now living broken due to a father's alcoholism and insecurity and a mother's stubborn pride. Meanwhile, their children are caught in a crossfire until life comes to a violent apex where things must change for good. A true classic and a must see.
